Benefits of Structural Insulated Panel Systems (SIPS)
Physical Qualities
- Designed for strength, safety and security
- Quality and durability is built in the prefabricated product
- EPS insulation U-Value is not subject to thermal drift; i.e. it will not decrease over the long term
- The inherent strength in the panels enables them to endure extreme snow loads and hurricane strength winds
- Panels are manufactured under controlled factory conditions with stringent in-plant quality control tests performed to ensure consistent quality
Construction
- Improves installation of interior finishes, plasterboard and windows
- SIPS result in straighter, flatter walls
- Trained and qualified installers ensure product performance and installation quality
- Project control is simplified as costs of materials, delivery and project planning are reduced
- In conjunction with our experienced architects we are able to offer a range of standard designs
Strength to Weight Ratio
Panels in general weigh only 25kg per sq m; strength however is up to seven times more than a conventional timber frame. Lighter panels allow for ease of handling; reduced foundation specification without compromise in its strength.
Inherent Strength
Each of the panels are rigidly secured to adjoining panels, sharing stresses and loads; once the monolithic shell is complete the strength is apparent. In addition, the interlocking of the panels creates a quiet, airtight construction.
Surface Fixing
With a continuous surface of OSB, the panels provide a sturdy and continuous nail and screw base for all internal and external joinery.
Exterior Finishes
There is no restriction on external finishes.
Cost Benefits
- Significant savings for heating and cooling costs
- Shorter build time reduces finance costs
- Water tight within 1-4 weeks depending on size and complexity
- Structure is delivered pre-assembled significantly reducing site traffic and associated costs
Foundations Costs
SIPS are lighter than conventional timber frame homes resulting in the lighter foundation design.
Energy Bills
Over the lifetime of your SIPS home a considerable saving on energy bills can be achieved. With less heating required a smaller system can also be installed.
On-Site Waste
SIPS are delivered to site pre-cut and engineered ready for installation, resulting in virtually no site waste for this stage of the construction.
On-Site Plant and Machinery
By reducing build time you reduce the requirement for on-site management, plant and machinery, security and temporary accommodation.
